Project Description

The ParkIn project aims to develop an environmental index observatory related to transportation, investigating reliable and practical solutions to address the significant issue of unnecessary, time and energy-consuming commuting in search of parking spaces. The ParkIn system consists of the PYCA application (Park Your Car Around) and the Environmental Index Observatory. Through the application, parking space owners declare the availability of their parking space and offer it to drivers searching for a spot in the area. The Observatory, a specially designed platform, estimates the achieved savings on environmental, energy, and economic levels by receiving data from the application.
The system, which is capable of replication and expansion in different areas (continental, island, large/medium-sized), utilizes existing parking spaces and optimally manages them on spatiotemporal scales, reducing search time. Efforts to increase awareness and motivate users and owners will ensure participation, while the application will operate with a reward system for usage. The ParkIn project was launched in May 2023 and has a duration of 2 years. The main partners of the project are the Technical University of Crete and Attica Region.
